Ericsson creates an industry platform for IoT-licensing Technologies

Ericsson today announces a platform that provides developers with new IoT-device access to technology, patented by other companies.

The platform will issue licenses on behalf of patent holders, who will receive the income from the sale of licenses for the right to use its technology. Licensees will pay licensors fixed amount, the amount of which is determined depending on the number of technologies used in a given device.

The new platform is designed to accelerate the development of the Internet of things by simplifying access to standardized technologies. Its use will enable companies to produce new devices with support for Internet of things, reduce the cost of R & D and start-up period of new products to the market.

Ericsson is one of the patent holders that will give third parties access to its proprietary technologies in the area of ​​IoT. According to calculations by Ericsson, licensing and granting of rights to use intellectual property (IPR & Licensing) through the platform will enhance the return on investment in R & D.

The platform will manage an independent company under the leadership of Kasim Alfalahi who previously headed in the direction of Ericsson, responsible for the observance of intellectual property rights, and was head of the IPR & Licensing Division.

According to Ericsson Mobility Report, by 2021 the Internet will be 28 billion connected devices, including devices from 15 billion M2M segment and consumer electronics.
